KISS : Its Uniqueness
KISS' model of tribal development is based on the premises that educational advancement is essential for their empowerment. There are five basic components of this model. They are :-
Earn While You Learn : KISS provides tribal children a unique opportunity to earn while they learn. Vocational training is concurrent to the basic education and the products from this activity are marketed. Students involved in a particular vocational trade bag the proceeds from this.
Livelihood Training : Each student is expected to undergo vocational training in a trade of her/his choice. This lays the foundation of future employment/self-employment of the student and their community.
Arresting Drop-out Menace & Child Marriage : While the major problem in tribal education has remained drop-out, KISS, through its innovations, has successfully arrested this menace by reducing it to zero. Through education it also combats the social problem of child marriage prevalent in tribal communities.
Leadership and Personality Development : Special focus is on development of soft skills and leadership qualities. It is intended for each student to act as catalyst of social change when she/he goes back to her/his village.
Sports and Extracurricular activities : Tribals have physical attributes suitable for sports. Facilities exist for football, rugby, hockey and other popular sports, where the students can hone their skills.
Cultural Integration : Interaction is arranged with outside world for their cultural integration. At the same time, students are encouraged to learn about the heritage of diverse tribal group they belong to.
